Deep Viewing Terms and Definition
Deep Viewing Is a method used to uncover meaning in multi-media texts. It requires focused listening, viewing, reading, and analysis.
This is an effective thinking strategy because it helps to manage more information by breaking it down into smaller bits.
These are the smaller bits:

1. Symbol: Includes your observations of significant: Colours, shapes, costumes, any physical object that stands in for a non-physical idea. All symbols depend on the context. EG. not all roses will stand for romance.
2-Camera Angles: Includes your observations of angles that cause different meanings/ feelings:
-pan (establishes setting)
-zoom (better for emotion)
-extreme close up (focuses you on certain details you may have missed)
-bird's eye view (things appear smaller/ insignificant to you and you feel large
-worm's eye view (you feel small)
-first person (normal feeling)

3-Sounds: Include your observations of volume, pace, tone of voice, accent, emotion in voice, pitch, mood of song sound effects)
4-Lyric: Anything that appears in the script. Pay particular attention to Emphasized or repeated phrases, problematic words, words that shocked you.
5-Audience- Who is represented/ excluded/ the intended audience? How do you tell?
6-Composition/ synthesis: Use all of your observations to decide what ONE of the opinions hidden in the media is.
